Trial Run

Grrl+Dog has issued a Global Guerilla Knitting and Crochet challenge.
The idea is that you make something knitted, crocheted, sewn, braided...you name it. Then you attach your (in my case crocheted) piece to something like a tree or telephone pole. Or you can leave your piece in the public arena on say a park bench for people to enjoy. Public art that is removable, hurts no thing and no one but is fun and makes one think..."why is that there?, what does that mean? Wow! I like that!"

Here is my trial run in the back yard. Tomorrow I am going out to do the first run of my participation in this great fun project. I wanted to time my performance so I can know how early I have to get up so as not to be spotted.

When I first saw these lovely knitted pieces it was on the blog of Jafabrit, who with others in her amazing Yellow Springs community, were making headlines. On the way home from London last spring I saw their trees in the news paper on the plane. My hubby showed me and I said, "I know those trees!." And from there I have followed the progression of this public art pouring. Not sure where it started, but I love it! Wanted to give a shout out to Jafabrit!

Great knitting Leanne and like the way you timed yourself...we have to be quite stealthy dont we?

Mmmm must get back into my knitting and get mine ready for stitching. I am still deciding on a place to stitch mine...the bus stop down the corner from where I live (the school kids would love it) or near our local post office (thats a bit scary for starters though I think).

Thanks everyone!
Getting ready to go for my guerilla run! I am excited.
I know, I know, timing myself is a little too much but strangely, I am really nervous. I will post pictures today of my first run. I am planning many more!

Ah, thanks for the shout out. I believe it was the knitta group that really started it all and they certainly inspired nancy and I when we were running a street art event for the arts council a few years back.

How bizarre. I'm convinced I posted a comment here earlier and now... it's not here!

Anyway, fantastic trial run! Can't wait to see the real thing! I might even join in myself!

omg Leanne! You are on. You have not only inspired me to set up another creative-playfull blog(I took mine apart over a year ago), you have inspired me to warm up to a tree with lively, functional, tickle full, pleasure. I will design and make one of those things and let you know about it. hA!

(p.s.- I recently had a 'delightful' visit with you, with Mark)
