It's time to make the bottles......
Sigh, every time I start one of these assignments for myself, I forget how it feels in the middle.
I lose the initial inspiration.
Grouchiness claims me and I protest to myself that I am tired and that I will have these bottles sitting around for years. I struggle and procrastinate. I cuss a lot and find the littlest distraction an excuse to get out of the studio.
But then something amazing happens.
I have a break through.
This is the reason for doing these seemingly insane assignments.
There is always some movement from within, some new insight into form and design, some new sense of the material I work with everyday.
And finally, I get this surge of love and appreciation for clay and I realize how much dirt means to me.
YAY! CLAY!

Wow! How do you churn these out so quickly with so much detail? You're amazing! I love the bowl that tells a story.
I know what you mean about the clay - I was feeling that way about the polar bear just a few nights ago, especially when it wasn't going to plan! And then everything starts going right again and the aching shoulders seem worth it :)
Fantastic, as usual! I love the last one of the round bottom with the narrow neck, and the leaves and crows. And all the rest too.
Those are splendid. Strangely similar to making woodblocks too.

Oh I know how you feel when you get to the middle of a project... that is how I used to feel when I sewed most all of my clothes.. 1/2 way through I hated the whole thing.. then I felt like if I wasted this material I'd freak.. so I would work even harder to make them better and I usually liked how they ended up.. and would wear them till the wore out... I am so cheap!!!! no I mean Frugal.. haha...
I really am enjoying your bottles.. they are so beautiful.. What an amazing productive Artist you are!!

It seems I have finally come around again to being really excited about this project and I can't wait to get to work. The ebb and flow again. I am riding the flow knowing the ebb will be not so far away.
You are definitely on the flow too with your wonderful sculpture of Mr. Polar Bear.

Thanks for stopping by Art Speaker. You are so right. They are a lot like wood block printing except you have to think exactly backwards. I always mess up when I change back to making prints.

I love your work in clay! The tall skinny bottle is amazing, I love the shape and the tilt. Do you hand build or work on the wheel? I wish I could take a class from you... and in the last photo of the bowl and bottle your birds and leaves are beautiful... thanks, Roxanne

You have such an interesting style - we can clearly see your experiment into Greek style, but it has such an original energy! These are both primitive and sophisticated that carries a feeling of soul that I think a lot of modern art lacks <3

I usually throw the pieces but have been investigating making bigger tilted and reconstructed bottles. In doing this I have been doing more hand building which I love. I wish we lived closer because I wold love to teach you but even more I would love to Learn from You!
