Geometric Bottles

More bottles. These are hand built and larger than one might think. The tallest measures 18 inches. The form and the process are seducing me and I have now made 6 of these bottles. I need to move on to other things but apparently that is not going to happen. My desire for this form is still strong. Alas, you can't tell the muse what to do. She has her own mind.

These are great! You say they are hand built ... would you mind doing a step by step on how to do it? I have a sack of clay in my car and no time this semester for a wheel class. I'd love to try making something by hand.

Ain't that the truth! I think that's something to do with the right side of the brain!

These bottles are great! I was wondering - when you say hand built do you mean coil built?

That's because the muse hasn't finished teaching you whatever it is she set out to do. These tall ones are gorgeous! I can see a few of them turned into beautiful lamps.

Hey Bindu,
I have been meaning to make a video on making boxes for Un D and one on hand building. I Will get Will to help me this weekend. But in the mean time I did a step by step on making a mermaid on my other blog Clay Tutorials. It might help a little.

Hey Un D,
These are coil built and because gravity is a big help they go up fairly easily. Love making them!

You are so right Robyn,
The muse has me by the toes. I guess I should just stop trying to assert my "should dos" and sit down and make more bottles. :)

Thanks so much Black and White!

I am partial to mosaic designs, so these are definitely 'up there' on my 'likes list'!! Can't wait to see what you come up with for glazes/finishes!! ...and remember "Don't 'piss off' your muse!!"

You're right Leanne, the Muse is the boss!!!....
These are great bottles and your workmanship is beautiful ..

I really love your utensil holder too.. I think I noticed it in another photo, I love your style..

Have you seen the thief of Baghdad, the original? These remind me of some of the city in that film.

Hey Svelte Stuff,
Trying very hard to listen to the muse and not make her mad....
I think these will be glazed with a clear but I am open to some experimentation.
I'll have to think on it.

Thanks Gwen!
That utensil holder has been with us for a couple of years. I made it super big because we are always accumulating a crazy number of utensils. Never could figure that one out.

Hey Art Sparker,
I haven't seen the Thief of Baghdad. I will have to watch it. It sounds like it would be a fun movie.

I thought of your intricate surface designed ceramics recently when I was doing a plate painting project---

These forms are gorgeous!

I really love some of the imperfections you get with hand built pieces. And that tall/flattish one is really awesome looking.

Hey Jacky,
Home at last! And can't wait to get to the tutorial. We are having trouble formatting the video from our camera. So I think I am going to borrow a friends this week and get on it.
ps....we need more clay people!

Hey Eero!
I'll have to jump over to your blog and see the plate project.
Thanks so much.

Welcome Flying Fluff,
Thanks for stopping by. Hand building does lead to the funnest of discoveries and imperfections. I love it.
